Job Description:

Responsibilities:
  • Primary Caregiver: Conducting physical assessments, administering immunizations, and treating acute/chronic illnesses.
  • Educator: Teaching parents and children about nutrition, injury prevention, disease management, and developmental milestones
    .
Advocate: Ensuring the child's needs and rights are met, and ensuring family-centered care, according to organizations like the Society of Pediatric Nurses
.Case Manager/Coordinator: Organizing care plans with doctors, therapists, and social workers.
Counselor: Supporting families through emotional, behavioral, and developmental challenges.
 
Work Environment and Specialized Care:
  • Settings: Pediatric nurses work in hospitals (NICU/PICU), outpatient clinics, school systems, and home health care.
  • Specialized Training: They are trained to tailor care to different developmental stages and may specialize in areas such as oncology, cardiology, or emergency care.
  • Certification: Pediatric nurses can obtain certification through organizations like the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB) to demonstrate specialized expertise.
     
Essential Skills:
  • Communication: Interacting with children of all ages and their parents.
