Responsibilities
Material Selection: Evaluate and recommend specific materials (e.g., metals, ceramics, polymers) that meet a product's mechanical, electrical, and environmental requirements.
Testing & Analysis: Design and oversee testing procedures, analyze data using computer modeling, and evaluate how materials perform under varying stresses.
Failure Investigation: Diagnose the causes of material or product failures and develop creative, cost-effective solutions to overcome them.
Process Optimization: Improve manufacturing and processing techniques to reduce costs and environmental impact.
Collaboration: Liaise with R&D, purchasing, and production teams to ensure that the chosen materials can be manufactured efficiently.
Compliance: Ensure all materials and developed products comply with relevant national and international industry standards.
Education: A Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or a closely related field.
Technical Proficiencies: Familiarity with materials characterization techniques (e.g., microscopy, spectroscopy), CAD, and materials simulation/modeling tools.
Analytical Thinking: Strong problem-solving skills to troubleshoot production problems and analyze complex test data.
Project Management: Ability to manage project timelines, budgets, and cross-functional teams.
