HV DESIGN ELECTRICAL ENGINEER

Job Description:

Responsibilities
  • System Design & Engineering: Develop single-line diagrams (SLDs), layout schematics, and cable routing details. Create specifications for primary plant equipment like transformers, switchgear, and protective relays.
  • Technical Calculations: Perform critical calculations for short circuits, busbar sizing, earthing/grounding grids, and cable sizing. 
  • Power System Analysis: Utilize modeling software (e.g., ETAP, CYMCAP, PSCAD) to run load flows, insulation coordination, and protection studies. 
  • Compliance & Standards: Ensure all designs adhere to international regulatory codes such as IEC, IEEE, and local utility requirements. 
  • Project Delivery: Review supplier/subcontractor documents, manage technical risks, and support the project from the feasibility phase to construction and commissioning. 
Required Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Engineering.
  • Experience: Usually ranges from 2 to 10+ years in HV power systems, substations, or heavy electrification projects.
  • Software Proficiency: Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, and advanced power simulation tools.
  • Certifications: Professional Engineer (PE) license or actively pursuing Chartered Engineer status with institutions like the IET is highly preferred. 
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Works closely with civil engineers, project managers, and utility providers.
  • Problem Solving: Requires strong analytical thinking to troubleshoot electrical issues and balance system performance with cost and safety.
