Job Description:

Responsibilities
  • Tumor Resection: Perform complex surgical procedures to remove primary tumors, adjacent tissues, and affected lymph nodes. 
  • Diagnostics & Staging: Execute surgical biopsies to confirm malignancy, determine the cancer stage, and assess spread. 
  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Partner with medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and radiologists to coordinate treatment timing and map individualized care plans.
  • Patient Care: Manage preoperative work-ups and oversee postoperative recovery, monitoring for surgical complications or cancer recurrence. 
  • Palliative Procedures: Conduct surgeries to alleviate symptoms and improve the quality of life in advanced or terminal cases. 
Educational Requirements & Qualifications
  • Medical Degree: Completion of an MBBS or equivalent medical degree.
  • Residency: 3 to 7 years of residency training in general surgery.
  • Fellowship: 2 to 3 years of specialized fellowship training focusing exclusively on cancer surgery.
  • Licensure & Board Certification: Valid medical license and board certification in surgery, with sub-specialty certification in surgical oncology (e.g., MCh or DNB in Surgical Oncology). 
Key Skills & Competencies
  • Advanced Operative Skills: High precision in operating around complex or critical anatomical structures.
  • Tumor Board Participation: Active contribution to interdisciplinary case meetings to define the optimal surgical approach.
  • Clinical Judgment: Strong diagnostic abilities to decide if surgery is the best primary intervention versus chemotherapy or radiation.
  • Communication: Empathy and clarity when discussing surgical risks, benefits, and recovery expectations with patients and their families.
